Preparing Your Home for Professional Photography

A professional photo shoot of your home to produce marketing photos should take around 30 minutes to an hour and consist of photographs taken both inside and outside of your house property.

Ultimately, you want to end up with images that make you feel proud to display your home for sale, images that will entice buyers. So it’s important to properly prepare your home in advance for the photographer to work their magic.

Here are a few tips to help you prepare for a successful photo shoot at your home. Basically it is about,

Clear out the clutter

The less “stuff” in the photos and your home, the bigger the rooms look.

Outside the home

  • Remove all vehicles from driveway
  • Do not park directly in front of the house
  • Mow and edge lawns
  • Tidy up any fallen palm leaves and remove any obvious weeds
  • Trim back any overgrown shrubs and trees
  • Sweep paths, decks and driveways
  • Put away children’s toys
  • Hide all pool cleaning equipment
  • Remove pets and their bowls, toys and litter
  • Neatly arrange outdoor furniture and play equipment
  • Ensure any rubbish bins are moved out of sight
  • Coil hoses

Living and family rooms

  • Turn on all lights and table lamps
  • Close all glass windows and doors
  • Open all window coverings to let in the natural light
  • Remove any general clutter, books, magazines CD’s from tables
  • Hide any electrical cables
  • Tidy up any general clutter on shelves etc.
  • Remove throw rugs and area rugs where possible
  • Turn off television and any ceiling fans

Kitchen

  • Clear any bench tops of clutter removing toasters, kettles etc.
  • Clean all bench tops and oven and dishwasher doors
  • Remove fridge magnets, notes, photos and calendars from fridge
  • Clean oven cook tops
  • Turn on all lights including stove exhaust fan lights
  • Close all glass windows and doors
  • Hide garbage bins

Bedrooms

  • Ensure all beds are made and tidy. Clothes put away.
  • Remove any bedside table clutter
  • Turn on all lights including bedside lamps
  • Close all glass windows and doors

Bathrooms and ensuites

  • Remove any personal items and cleaning products
  • Remove toothbrushes, toothpaste and shavers from bench tops
  • Polish faucets and mirrors
  • Fold towels neatly over towel rails or remove completely
  • Put toilet seats down
  • Turn on all lights on
  • Close all glass windows and doors
